Human parrot
Do we learn something
To understand?
Or do we only learn
To parrot something?…
Well, my personal experience is that people often are like sheep. When one sheep runs into the fire the others follow – and we humans are similar: We run after what is in fashion, we copy others in words and go along the wishes of others too (curiosity, greed, envy) If the neibour has something what we not have, we also want to have (not all and everything of course) – however, there are of course other people who are independent from those influences, people who go their own way and most of them are treated as outsiders. So we have two groups: one group learns individually, self-reliantly while the other group follows the main-stream (I would say the majority)
I hope I have explained it sufficiently and clearly enough.
Thank you. You are right, I think parroting is an issue which needs to be addressed in today’s world yet I believe that it’s significance is far more relevant at a personal level that we need to retrospect and reflect upon our actions from time to time. 🙂
Indeed, that gives us also the possibility to control what we say or do, or even think with the help of an own reflection. Thank your for your profound comment 🙂
Not sure if you remember my situation where I quit my job in Thailand, but in my school parroting was the means of teaching. Of course when learning a new language a lot of repetition after a teacher is necessary, but my teacher told us if you could get a kid to say a word off of a flash card, but not be able to conceptualize it, or use it in a sentence or anything that that still was a win, and it genuinely felt like I was wasting my time. Was a shame that the school was totally indifferent towards whether their students were learning and content with them just parroting.
Anyways, that was really random, but thought I’d share it with you Didi haha. Hope you have a nice day my good friend 🙂
Thanks dear Pharaoh 🙂
Yes, I remember your situation. When I was on high school we had to study Latin and our teacher also instructed us in learning declinations through repeating – indeed it may be a help to learn the grammar and to remember the tenses in combinations with persons (singular and plural) – but then later it is important to “digest” the learnt subjects. For example when learning vocabularies, you learn them “naked” at first, later you form whole sentences. (in here you are also free in constructing your sentences) – but if you just repeat the whole sentences, because they are in fashion, then I consider it as mere parroting. Unfortunately when concepts and books or part of books are learnt by heart and not “digested” – this is again parroting. When learning something – it should not be the point of repeating it meaninglessly without understanding – but it should enter our heart and head as well…
Thank your very much for your constructive participation in this matter 🙂
We would end up likely spending weeks at a time repeating a few of the same sentences. Thats fine at first, but I remember my teacher saying,
“we don’t care if they know how to say where they went Sunday morning, we just want them saying they went to the mall sunday morning even if they don’t know what it means. It was just parroting and it was a total acceptance of not really making much of a change.
And I’m always glad to participate here, hope you have a nice Sunday as well Didi 🙂
I think its both. We parrot/mimic certain things someone has taught us but we also learn/not to understand certain things. Its confusing at the same time its something we grow into. 😊 Have a good day Didi!
yes, there are always those mixed-forms: we are not just like this or that but something in-between.
Thanks for your contributive comment, dear friend 🙂
All good wishes

You are right, to repeat a sentence without understanding its meaning is meaningless…
Have good start in this new week 🙂
