An excerpt from the book: “Morning Talks” by Sant Kirpal Singh
Selfless service is done in two ways. The first way is physical service. If somebody is sick, go and serve him. Shall I see somebody in need, hungry, naked, poor fellow? The Masters have always been for the poor, for the needy, to console them, to raise them up to the level of every man. If we do that, if everyone would share with others, there would be no poor in the world. Why are men so needy and hungry? Because we don’t share. So by sharing with others, our self expands. At the very moment of giving you feel a little joy within. That is the compensation you get, direct. But whenever you give, don’t give with the hope that you will have a return. Give for the sake of sharing with others. Sometimes we give for the reward that we will get in heaven. This is not the way, selfless giving is what is needed. This is one of the qualifications for one who would like to progress on the Spiritual way. So he is a man, who lives for others, who shares with others, with the needy, with the hungry, with those who are in very poor circumstances and cannot go on. What do we do? We feed our children very richly, while the children of our neighbours die of hunger. This is not what is wanted.
One of the Mohammedan saints, who happened to be a lady, once prepared to go to Mecca on pilgrimage. Mecca is a place of pilgrimage for Mohammedans and is located in Arabia. She had some money for the journey and as she was about start, she noticed some poor, hungry fellow in the neighbourhood. She gave away everything to him and so was not able to go to the place of pilgrimage. What was the result? An angel appeared to her and said that her pilgrimage had been accepted. You follow what is meant? The man who lives on his own earnings, earned by the sweat of his brow, honestly, and who shares with others, such a man only is fit to progress on the Spiritual way. Give not for the sake of compensation or return. Give for the sake of sharing with others. That is your duty towards your brothers and sisters.
A mother, whose children are hungry, will take out a morsel from her own mouth and give it to the children. She does not care for any return. So help others with that angle of vision, with that spirit. We give sometimes for show. That is only for name and fame. That charity is no charity. Christ said, “If one hand gives, the other hand should not know”. If one hand gives something, let not your other hand know about it. So this is what is meant by charity.
Impressions of Kirpal Sagar continue.
Have a good time and be warmly embraced.
Today I would like to give some information about social activities in Kirpal Sagar.
Selfless help for needy and ill people are a way of keeping distance to one’s own ego,
if there is no self-pride involved in it.
From heart to heart
Kirpal Charitable Hospital
Sant Kirpal Singh whole-heartedly wished to provide help to those people who cannot afford medical care. Thus the hospital became the first facility within the Project taking up its function in 1983.
Various treatments are applied, such as allopathic, homeopathic, and ayurvedic therapies.
Poor people receive free medical treatment and medicine at the hospital. Presently the majority of the patients are treated as outpatients.
The accomplishment of the hospital up to 50 beds with departments of general medicine, pediatric, gynecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, dialysis center and surgery is under construction.
Furthermore, ambulances reach out to remote villages at central gathering points, such as schools, to provide medical care for people who otherwise would not have a chance to see a doctor. From time to time external eye specialists come to Kirpal Sagar to perform eye operations.
A dentist’s practice at the hospital provides dental care for the people of the neighbouring area and also for the students of the Kirpal Sagar Academy.
Students of the future Medical College will perform their practical training within the hospital. An international student exchange is also planned.
From the very beginning of the Kirpal Sagar project, humanitarian help has been provided to the people of the surroundings. Due to the weak infrastructure of this rural area it is very difficult to get medical treatment, especially for the needy.
Medical camps provided help for patients from the near by villages before the “Kirpal Charitable Hospital” eventually took up its function in 1983 as the first facility within the Project.
Meanwhile a large Hospital complex was constructed with departments of general medicine, pediatric, gynecology, obstetrics, ophthalmology, dialysis centre and surgery.
Disadvantaged people obtain free distribution of medicine and medical care irrespective of caste, colour and creed.
Many volunteers from different countries support the project and some medicine firms in Germany and Switzerland are donating medicines.
Wheel-chairs for disabled people
To serve the poor and the needy is the true selfless service. If you give food to the hungry, you will never feel hungry. If you give water to the thirsty, you will never feel thirsty. How true is the prayer of the meek and unwanted and accursed is the life of him who ignores, and how great and broat-hearted is the one who works selflessly and gives head and heart to overcome the miseries of others. By holding on the treasures of virtues he becomes actionless. So long as one knows not the miseries of others, he knows not the very secret to overcome his own miseries. Wise persons tell us that it is vain to ask for pleasures and shun from pains. More one does, more one feels happy. This is what Sant Kirpal Singh ever felt.
Help for Self-Help
At Surajpur a stitching and sewing school was opened in April 2005, there sewing and needle work courses are offered to enable women to earn their own living. Also, a training for nurses is planned for the future.
Untrained workers can undergo a job-training in the workshops at Kirpal Sagar, which also provide jobs for people with disabilities.
Since the year 2008 seminaries for women empowerment are organized by the B.ed.College at Kirpal Sagar.
Marriages arranged in Kirpal Sagar for needy and poor people
In the Indian culture, marriage plays an important role but wedding ceremonies are very expensive. Consequently, Unity of Man helps poor families by arranging the wedding and the furnishings for the couples to give them a good start in their family life. The marriage ceremonies are celebrated according to the religious belief of the couples. The newly married couples receive basic equipments needed for a new household: a fully equipped bedroom, furniture for a living-room, kitchen utensils as well as clothes and watches, everything sponsored by Unity of Man.
Further help is supplied in case of disasters. During the big flood in 2010, two truckloads with emergency supplies were sent to the city of Leh, Ladakh.
Since Kirpal Sagar has its own water supply, big water tanks are put up in neighbouring towns during a big drought, to supply people passing by with drinking water.
The size and variety of the now existing facilities enable to react flexibly in emergency situations. In the home for the elderly for example orphaned children could be accommodated together with their grandfather.
No one can be said to have been born for himself alone, for none can be an island unto himself. To serve the needy, sick and starving, is also a sideline, more effective than mere preaching.
Sant Kirpal Singh
My dear friends all over the world
Life is a roller-coaster
We smile and are happy in good times
And we mourn and cry in bad times
When misfortune knocks at our door
Lets remember to be a beacon
For all lost ships in darkness
In doing so we overcome our own pain
Service and help are the features of light
To give and share unconditionally
To fight poverty and desparation
To bring people on their feet again
Words of hope can encourage
Deeds may reach lost hearts
Enlight their sad fate
To regain forgotten smiles
Let us put our heads and hearts together
Our hands in mutual service and help
To bring courage and strength
To those who suffer
Noone is foreign to us
We are all brothers and sister in Him
We all are one family – human beings…

Some more information about the competent Master in the Golden Age.
Thanks for your attention and stopping by.
On His last Punjab-tour in October 1973, Sant Kirpal Singh visited the Agriculture Farm located near Nawanshar. There was one room made of mud and one Pacca-room beside a little room for the water-pump. Master stayed there nearly for fifteen minutes. He took water from the water-pump and a grain of rice. Then He blessed Kirpal Sagar which now has been built beside the Farm.
With due permission of the Master, the name Manav Kendra was changed to Kirpal Sagar before Sant Kirpal Singh left His physical body. Kirpal means ‘Grace’, Sagar means ‘Ocean’ – thus the name Kirpal Sagar means ‘Ocean of Grace’.
Master wants from heart that everyone should do the work (selfless service): Everyone should put his head and heart to do that work. It is His earnest desire, a desire from His heart, because He loves each child and wants to develop everyone. He is not having any connection with us on the physical level, but His contact is direct with the soul.
So blessed are those who are chosen for this purpose; they are very fortunate. Master always laid stress upon this subject (the importance of selfless service). Because in the lives of all competent Masters and their devotees, there was only one way: To live and to do for Him! And this is the ultimate goal. If the disciple is obliged to the Master, he says, “I have to do whatever my Master would tell me, it is my highest duty to obey His order.”
The place which Sant Kirpal Singh has chosen for Kirpal Sagar has also a background which first was not known to us. When we started the construction work, people from the surroundings came to us, and one of them told that an old person had been living there whose name was Chattar Singh; he was considered to be mad. To that place the cows were taken for grazing, and he used to sit along with the boys there. He never would return to his home, he stayed overnight in the forest, which was full of snakes. There was also a certain animal which always attacks man. It is not injurious, but its teeth are very sharp. One time, when taking rest, he was bitten by this animal and his nose was bleeding. Those boys wanted to take him to the doctor nearby for dressing the wound, but he said, “No, there is a hospital, I have got it dressed over there.”
Sometimes the boys used to say, “Old man, you are smelling, you should take a bath.” He would reply, “Yes, here is a Sarovar, a holy tank, I’m always taking a bath there.” When they offered him to share their food, he answered, “No, there is a big common kitchen here, I always take the food from here.” All the time he used to tell such things, and he even said, “There is a big temple, a house of God.” So all people called him a mad person, who is seeing things where other people don’t see anything. Now those persons from the neighbourhood believe that he was a holy man.
So, holy places are already fixed by the Masterpower. Kings, premiers, and rich persons can create cities, but holy places are built only by the Masters, they are built in the omnipresence of the Masterpower. The guidance of the Master continues every moment, and in spite of many problems in the beginning the commissioned Manav Kendra could be constructed.
Kirpal Sagar is a common ground for all people to get together, irrespective of caste, colour, creed, religion or country. It belongs to all human beings of the world. In Kirpal Sagar no religion but the basic teaching of all religions is taught, which is one and the same and has been written with one opinion.
To keep the various outer rituals and rites of the different religions with their basic signification is no bar to true religion. Every religion teaches the universal teaching of the universal link among all human beings – the Brotherhood of Men under the Fatherhood of God. Religion is a very smooth pattern and a way to realize one’s self, if one rises above the shackles of the religion.
Kirpal Sagar is neither being built in the memory of Sant Kirpal Singh, nor is it a personal wish. It was the wish of Sant Kirpal Singh which is being fulfilled by all devoted disciples of Him.
Moreover, who learns and yearns or who wants to learn and yearn can also work in Kirpal Sagar, as it is the work of God, done by man but inspired by God. This is the highest but the rarest chance that ever comes in the life of a human being.
More details about Kirpal Sagar:
What a mire the world is lost in! It doesn’t know a Saint from a charlatan!
O my brother, just because someone has collected a group of followers, does that make him a holy man?
It matters what we want to attain
Sant Kirpal Singh describes it as follows: There are Masters and masters, with due deference to all. It is for us to see what we get. Those who are after worldly things or supernatural powers or mind-reading or perhaps healing are really not after God. These are side issues. They get that thing and that is all, but they do not get God.
Why is gurudom in disrepute today?
Modern gurus are generally political at heart. They have an axe to grind – to make money and get honour and respect. They are not concerned with the well-being of the people. Their object is to impress the people by their hypocrisy, deceit, and falsehood. You may be taken in by these methods.
What did Christ say: “Beware of the false prophets who come in sheep’s clothing but are ravening wolves.” They appear to be very polite. The only criterion can be one who can give you a lift, open the inner eyes so that you see there is light there; not tell you that you’ll get it in due course. What another criterion can there be, tell me? Their propaganda? No! There is no dearth of propaganda anywhere. Money can buy anything. Propaganda can be paid for. But what is the criterion? Can he open the inner eye, remove the darkness from within for you to see? There you say, “God is Light”.
Sant Kirpal Singh
“Tricky people create confusion and the confused follow them as their Master and out of confusion they do not leave. To create confusion in one’s heart is the act of “so-called poles” (who claim to be a Master or a competent teacher but do not have any competency). Directly or indirectly they are connected with the negative power. They themselves do not know the consequences of that play and cannot explain it to others. Preacher and followers are under illusion, which they think to be an act of God.”
“Miracles, which are a play of the astral powers, affect such people and bring them into the fold of the negative power. Those who enjoy the miraculous powers are devoid of the positive and the higher values of life, (they cannot regain them) till they really find the way to an awakened person.”
The miracles shown by those confused people are the outbursts of the astral effects in the physical world and bring them lots of diseases of the mind. Thus the diseases of the mind are due to the astral effects on the mind. In other words, mental diseases or the diseases of the mind are astral diseases. Most of the people wish to gain peace of the mind, and they can be easily misled by the negative power and the astral effects upon them.
Very rare are such people who have no desires and whose wishes are fulfilled without having any desire. They are the blessed ones to whom God reveals all they need. All others are thus (due to their wishes) bound in giving and taking since there is no (possibility of getting) free out of grace without the gracious Master. Thus all such people lose their capital, and their interests are increasing till they have lost the whole capital and also the positive vision.
Its likings in an always finer and more subtle way, and there is no end to this desire. Thus one feels even happier when one sees something in the astral vision. But he is ignorant and does not know this play which is mere smoke and dust. The miracles which appear due to one’s wishes, affect one’s mind and the thoughts remain involved.
The fruit of life is within the belief of the Master
One may outwardly pose like a Master, one may create oneself to be a holy person and start proving a great holy personality with the help of bookish knowledge, but the inner life is not changed. For how long will such acting and posing continue? At last, the cat will be out of the bag. For how long will people trust?
One may put a silken cloth on dirt, the bad smell will be emitted from there. Acting and posing have taken the place of true living. Those who act well are taken into good books. When people have bitter experiences for want of their demand, they call names (him who was not able to give them something). They should (complain) since they had given their head and heart. So Master says, “Believe only when you see yourself.” Without seeing, sometimes belief becomes a mystery, and to solve it may take one’s whole life.
Master tells us: “Reading, writing, feelings, emotions. drawing inferences are all subject to error, seeing is above all.”
All worldly disputation is fake and futile.
There are two pieces of knowledge – one of the heart and the other relating to bookish knowledge. The knowledge of the heart is light and full of intoxication. It is easy to carry either during life or after life. Whereas the bookish knowledge is a burden of many sighs and is difficult to carry.
Saints have respect for the bookish knowledge provided one moves further to attain it in practical form. Otherwise, this theoretical knowledge is liable to forget. In the scriptures, there is written about God, but God is not there. Without practical knowledge, there can be strains of various degrees, which leads to illusion and delusion.
The “so-called saints” in the world are devoid of that practical knowledge but are well versed with the theoretical aspect of life which they have grasped from the experience of others. They advise others (in spite of) their fake and suspicious conduct. They preach the truth but they act the other way. There is a difference between day and night between their inner and outer life. It is the highest time to rely on the experience of our past competent Masters, which are in accordance with the holy scriptures, and to develop the sincere wish to have those experiences ourselves. And this very same experience we should demand (from a Master). One should create a ruling passion to get the highest gift of life and never remain (contented) in those experiences limited to one’s intellect and mind. Where the world’s philosophies end, there the religion starts. The physical, astral, and causal regions are the worlds made by physical, astral, and causal matter, and they have no importance for us and have nothing to provide. Whatever exists there is not the heritage of the soul but is rather the food and heritage of mind and intellect. What the soul wants is the longing (for God) and the reunification with Him.

In Kirpal Sagar, we have also started to build an Old People’s Home (about 24 years ago) that possibly will be the biggest in whole India giving accommodation for about 1000 elderly people in the future. So the social aspect plays also an important role besides the spiritual aspect in Kirpal Sagar where a man can develop as a real man to practice service to man, service to the land, and service to one’s own soul.
To you all greetings from my heart
The old people’s home was opened in 1994 during the World Conference on Human Unity held in Kirpal Sagar.
Due to the prevailing poverty, many elderly people in India, although they are loved by their families, do not have a pleasant life. The elderly people with their life experience will be able to give their advice and help each other. They have also learned certain professions. If they are able to guide others, they can be of invaluable help for unskilled people working on the project.
It will be possible for them to deal with the meaning of human life, and even in old age, they will be able to understand what they have not yet understood. In this way, their lives can come to a peaceful and gentle end.
Those who want to serve selflessly have the opportunity to do so here. You can choose from the various activities of the project to find a job that suits you. In this way, they can find fulfilment in the service to their fellow man and can live in a carefree manner, in an atmosphere that is entirely focused on their physical and spiritual well-being.
